RBVI Annual Report Information
Our funding agency, the NIH National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) requires us to prepare a detailed annual report each year. In recent years we have been using web-based tools to collect the data NIH requires of our users. In response to user feedback, in 2004 we completely redesigned the software we use to collect report data. The key changes to the system are:
- Reports are now based on research projects. We no longer require that each individual user submit a separate report. Rather each project simply needs to list all RBVI users associated with that project. The project description is carried forward from year to year, so often all that's need is to update last year's report to include any recent results. Note that individuals may participate in more than one project and that each research project needs to be documented in a separate report.
- Principle Investigators can designate an associate to be responsible for the completing the details of the report. Either the PI or his/her delegate can then provide the needed information and/or edit the report. (Regardless of who supplies the data, the PI is resonsible for the correctness of the report.)
- Collecting of report information is now done incrementally, instead of requiring all data to be entered into one large form. Be sure to either click on the "save data" or "submit report" button after entering data in any form.
- Publications can be looked up in PubMed based on title, authors, or PubMed ID, so that it is no longer necessary to enter all publication data by hand. This significantly simplifies entering publications.
All reports are entered using the Annual Report Submission Form. When you access this web page, you will be asked to provide a login ID and password; use the same ID and password as you normally use to access host socrates. The form will provide you with a list of the reports for each project that you described last year (if any), or the project abstract you provided when requesting your account (new users only). You can then edit these reports and update any of the relevant information, and create a new report(s) if appropriate.
We realize that reporting on your research progress annually is yet another burden for you, but the UCSF Resource for Biocomputing, Visualization, and Informatics (RBVI) exists in part because of the generous funding we receive from the NIH, and generating a detailed annual report is a requirement of this funding.
YOUR COOPERATION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!
If you have any questions or issues about our annual report, please contact Tom Ferrin, Principal Investigator of the RBVI.
NOTE: The annual report submission form uses features found only on relatively new web browsers. Attemping to view and enter data using an old browser may cause unpredictable results. We have successfully tested the form using the following browsers:
Your browser needs to have JavaScript enabled (usually it is by default).
- Internet Explorer 6 or later (but using IE is not recommended)
- Safari 1.1 or later
- Netscape 7.2 or later
- Mozilla 1.7 or later
- Firefox 1.0 or later
